A fallen tree had left Markita Ray’s Detroit home unsafe to enter. Ray, her newborn, and her six-year-old son had been living elsewhere while many of their belongings stayed inside.
After Local 4 reported on the family’s situation, volunteers and Connelly Crane Rental came to the house on September 21. The crane lifted the tree away from the home.
Andrew Connelly said the company wanted to help after learning what had happened. The work gave the family a chance to begin repairs and showed them they were not facing the setback alone.
Ray’s family is also raising money for repairs and temporary housing. The first step, getting the tree off the house, is now done.
