New York is putting nearly $1 billion into the next installment of its Sustainable Future Program. The state says the investment is meant to lower energy costs, reduce building emissions, improve air quality in schools, and expand renewable power.
The plan includes $150 million for no-cost home energy assessments, efficiency upgrades, and heat-pump installations for low- and moderate-income households. Another $150 million will support energy improvements in affordable housing.
Schools will receive $50 million for projects intended to cut carbon emissions and improve indoor air quality. The plan also includes $200 million to expand solar incentives and $100 million for public renewable-energy projects through the New York Power Authority.
Other funding will support thermal-energy networks, food-waste reduction, climate-resilient farming, urban tree canopies, and public lands. It is a broad package, but its purpose is simple: make the clean-energy transition useful in everyday places.
