Timor-Leste has completed a network of Balkaun Uniku one-stop public-service offices in all 14 municipalities, after opening the latest one in Viqueque on July 29.
People can use the offices for services such as national identity cards, passports, and criminal certificates, with several services brought together under one roof.
Before the Viqueque office opened, residents in the municipality could need to travel to Dili or another municipality for key administrative services. The new network is meant to save time, reduce travel costs, and shorten waits.
The project is a partnership between Timor-Leste’s Ministry of State Administration and the United Nations Development Programme. It is part of a wider effort to make public administration more inclusive and citizen-centered.
