The UK government has announced £7.3 million in funding for eight projects aimed at supporting the shift toward zero-emission flight.
The announcement points to two main directions for cleaner aviation: electric aircraft and hydrogen-powered planes.
Rather than focusing only on aircraft design, the funded work includes practical airport needs such as electric charging, hydrogen storage, and infrastructure for handling electric and hydrogen aircraft safely.
The government also highlighted examples connected to companies like Beta Technologies and Vertical Aerospace, aimed at showing how next-generation aircraft could fit into commercial airport operations.
If the transition is going to be real, it has to work on the ground as well as in the air. This funding is aimed at building that missing layer.
