Renewables supplied 53.1 percent of electricity generated by the UK’s major power producers between March and May 2026, according to the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero.
Renewable generation from those producers was 22 percent higher than in the same period a year earlier. Gas generation was 17 percent lower.
Low-carbon sources together provided 69.8 percent of the major producers’ generation, up 7.5 percentage points year on year. Fossil fuels made up 29.6 percent, down 7.4 points.
These figures cover major power producers, so they are not a measure of every generator in the country. Even with that limit, they show a clear shift in the mix of electricity being produced.
