For the past two months, a Vancouver man who goes by Mr. Singh has walked through the Downtown Eastside handing out home-cooked meals to people who need them.
In a CityNews Vancouver interview published September 11, Singh estimated that he had served about 15,000 people. He also checks in with each person, asking how they are doing and reminding them that they matter.
Singh pays for the effort himself and has hired one person to help. His longer-term hope is to provide one million meals, one plate at a time.
He keeps his face and real name private, but the people he feeds know the simple difference a warm meal and a little attention can make.
