Twenty-five volunteers from the Daegu Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Social Contribution Council joined the Korean Red Cross for a free meal service on September 16.
At a plaza in Duryu Park, the group served warm meals to about 1,200 people, including older adults living alone, people without homes, and people with disabilities, according to Asia Business Daily.
The meal was held ahead of Chuseok, a major Korean holiday when families traditionally gather. For people who could not be with family, the gathering offered food, care, and a welcoming place to sit.
It was a simple act with a wide reach: a group of local volunteers made sure many neighbors were not overlooked.
