A growing community is forming around Destination Earth (DestinE), a European Commission initiative meant to create highly detailed digital models of Earth’s systems.
ECMWF reports that the fifth DestinE User eXchange took place 9–10 June 2026 in Brussels and online, bringing together 350 people onsite and 300 more online.
The event highlighted progress on DestinE’s Climate and Extremes Digital Twins, the Digital Twin Engine, and new work on artificial intelligence for Earth-system modelling.
ECMWF says the gathering happened shortly before Phase Three begins, with a focus on operating and further evolving the Climate and Extremes Digital Twins and the Digital Twin Engine.
Phase Three will also focus on advancing AI models from earlier work and turning digital-twin outputs into high-quality, AI-ready datasets that can support decision-making.
