The U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations says it has issued a Notice of Intent for up to $400 million to support clean-energy projects in rural and remote parts of the country.
DOE describes the effort as part of its Energy Improvements in Rural or Remote Areas (ERA) Program, focused on community-driven projects that deliver measurable benefits and strengthen local capacity and self-reliance.
The department says eligible projects can cover a range of practical needs, including modernizing electric generation, improving transmission and distribution, developing microgrids, increasing energy efficiency, and cutting greenhouse-gas emissions.
DOE says it expects to fund 16 to 69 projects, with awards ranging from $2 million to $50 million, and that eligible applicants include Tribal nations, local governments, co-ops, universities, non-profits, and businesses.
