More than 500 school principals, supervisors, assessment coordinators and teachers from Argentina's La Rioja province gathered online to talk about a simple question: how can information about student learning lead to better teaching?
The meeting was part of ERCE Schools, a UNESCO program that helps education communities use assessment to improve learning. Participants reviewed early results from diagnostic assessments and discussed how to turn those results into practical classroom decisions.
The program began in La Rioja in late 2025 and includes 140 educational institutions. Its focus is early literacy, with school teams using a shared baseline to spot progress, challenges and places where extra help may be needed.
Good assessment is not just a score. Used thoughtfully, it can help teachers see what children understand and choose the next lesson with greater care.
