The Government of Canada has announced up to 37,671,961 Canadian dollars for a new Active Living Centre in Marathon, Ontario.
The 100,000-square-foot centre will be built on the downtown waterfront. Plans include aquatic facilities, an arena, fitness and programme areas, and flexible spaces for community gatherings.
The building is designed to be fully accessible and energy efficient. It is expected to give nearly 20,000 residents across the region, including people from nearby Indigenous communities, year-round access to recreation, cultural activities and wellness programmes.
The investment is part of Canada’s Build Communities Strong Fund, which supports local infrastructure for housing, health, education, transit, climate adaptation and community life.
