The United Nations Development Programme in Moldova has opened applications for 160 women who want to make their household businesses more climate-resilient and energy-efficient.
The support comes through the Resilient Communities Through Women Empowerment project, funded by Sweden and Norway. Selected applicants can receive goods, equipment, services or other help worth up to $6,000 per project, with at least 20 projects planned for the left bank of the Nistru River.
Ideas that qualify include solar panels, heat pumps, energy-saving equipment, soil restoration, organic crops, orchards, beekeeping, aquaculture and eco-tourism. Applicants must live in one of 42 partner communities and contribute at least 5% of the requested support.
The program treats a stronger local economy and a healthier environment as part of the same job. Women will have a chance to build income while making their communities better prepared for a changing climate.
