A new conservation effort plans to help 100 species facing imminent extinction, including animals, plants and other forms of life across 30 countries.
The Phoenix Species Project was launched by Re:wild and the Bezos Earth Fund with the IUCN Species Survival Commission as a global knowledge partner. It begins with a $200 million commitment, split between the Bezos Earth Fund and Re:wild with support from other partners.
The work will be shaped for each species and place. Possible tools include raising animals in conservation programs, moving them to safer habitat, managing disease, controlling invasive species and restoring the places they call home.
The project is designed to last for years, giving small populations time to recover. Indigenous Peoples, local communities, scientists and conservationists will help lead the work in the places where it happens.
