The South Coast Air Quality Management District has approved an addendum to its agreement with the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles. The plan is designed to reduce pollution from goods moving through the region.
The ports would each put US$20 million into regional charging and fueling infrastructure for zero-emission drayage trucks. South Coast AQMD would manage project selection, funding, and implementation.
The addendum also calls for stronger incentives for shipping companies to use cleaner ocean-going vessels and for trucking companies to use zero-emission trucks at the ports.
The two ports' harbor commissions still need to approve the addendum. If they do, the investment will make it easier for cleaner trucks and ships to operate in one of the busiest port areas in the country.
